Time

We welcome volunteers and are developing our Volunteer Programme to provide a variety of opportunities for people wanting to give us their time. Volunteers are allocated to specific projects depending on their interests and the time they have available.

Meet the volunteer...

Name David Bagnall
Age 37
Role Volunteer at art workshops held at York Art Gallery.
What has the work involved? I’ve been helping at school holiday art workshops, working for 2½ hour sessions. I help children choose the pictures they want to draw and the materials they want to use and give them ideas and encouragement.
How did you get involved? I’m a part-time history tutor and I would really like to get into educational museum work so I contacted the trust and said I wanted to get involved. I was put in touch with Gaby Lees, assistant curator of arts learning at the gallery, who told me about these workshops.
Would you recommend it to others? Yes - I’ve loved it so far. Just seeing the enthusiasm of the children coming in is really exciting. The hours fit in fine with the rest of my life.
Our verdict Gaby says: “It's great to have a volunteer in to help with our drop-in workshop sessions here at the gallery as it's important to give each child some individual attention. At busy times this just wouldn't be possible without some assistance. David is really good at praising the children's achievements and encouraging them to try new materials.”
